PEOPLE & PATIENT HANDLING

€150 Per Person / €1,700 for group of 12

4.5 Hour Course

Aim This course is designed for healthcare workers who need to be trained to safely move and handle patients under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work 2005 and Manual Handling Regulations 1993 and 2007.
Requirements

Who’s it for

Patient handling Training is a requirement for all staff members working or wishing to work in the healthcare profession, these include healthcare assistants, nurses, porters, therapist and any individuals with the responsibility of manually aiding a person’s movement.
Method of Delivery The course is facilitated by instructors with years of hands-on experience working in the area of people handling.
Duration & Assessment 4.5 Hour Course

Students will be evaluated on their patient moving and handling techniques. They must demonstrate competence in all movements.

  • The Law and its Application to the Manual Handling Environment
  • Musculoskeletal System
  • Biomechanics and Mechanism of Injury
  • Ergonomics and Risk Assessment
  • Basic Principles of Lifting
  • Log Roll
  • Sitting Patient up in Bed
  • Turning patient in bed using sliding sheets
  • Moving patient up the bed using sliding sheets
  • Sitting Patient to edge of a bed
  • Standing patient
  • Transferring patient from bed to chair
  • The falling patient
  • Correct use of hoist / slings
Certification Upon successful completion of this course students will be issued with a certificate of attendance.

This cert will be valid for 2 years
