This Manual Handling training course is designed to meet the needs of all levels of employees who may undertake manual handling operations.

Note: Incorrect manual handling is one of the most common causes of injury at work. It causes work-related musculoskeletal disorders which account for over a third of all workplace injuries.  Back injuries caused by incorrect manual handling techniques are one of the most frequent causes of workers compensation claims.

To comply with current Health and Safety legislation, staff must be given training in safe manual handling techniques. This training will show you and your staff how to carry out manual handling tasks correctly and therefore avoid back injuries.

• Awareness of legislation, – understand the Employers/Employees duties with respect to Manual Handling
• Dangers of careless and unskilled methods
• Anatomy of the spine and muscular system
• Hazard Identification, -how the body is harmed through incorrect handling techniques
• Risk Assessment Techniques
• Implementing control measures
• Accident Investigation
• Good lifting and manual handling techniques. Perform individual & team lifting safe techniques (incl. pushing/pulling) of industry specific loads
• Competence testing

A classroom-based tutorial course, supplemented with group activity workshops. Written multi-choice question paper to ensure learning and understanding.

Students will be evaluated on their manual handling techniques. They must demonstrate competence in all movements.
